|Sian Ka'an Canal tour|
Sian Ka'an is the largest natural protected area in the State of Quintana Roo. It is an ecological tour for people interested in nature, in ecosystems, plants and birds.
The tour combines walking, swimming, and traveling by boat in an exploration of the coastal wetlands of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. It is an ecological tour for people interested in experiencing and learning about nature, ecosystems, tropical birds and plants, as well as Mayan culture and history, the tour does not focus on observation of large tropical animals.
The activity takes place in a motorboat with a guide, who will give information about the flora and fauna of the area, helping to recognize the great diversity of ecosystems found in the Reserve of Sian Ka'an.
After a tour in the lagoon, go down to the boat to walk a few meters to the Mayan temple Xlapac, small settlement of Mayan Culture hiding in the jungle. At the end of this visit, it's time to jump into the water and relax floating in a canal of about 1 meter and a half deep which will take you safely to the stream to where our boat. Finally we retrace the lagoon area so you can appreciate the richness of nature. Enjoying landscapes, cool off yourself while meandering the fresh water canal, the by boat get to the Boca Paila estuary before finalize this wonderful day with a lunch in a pristine water cenote.
The canal ends at a Post Classic Mayan Temple hidden in the mangrove swamp with beautiful frescos and a well-preserved inner sanctum. After visiting the temple we continue by boat to the freshwater Lagoon of Chunyaxche where we see some examples of the thousands of small sink holes (cenotes) from which the lagoon is filled.
