Entry requirements: Visitors from the U.S. must carry proof of citizenship in the form of a valid passport. Also valid: an original/certified copy of a birth certificate presented with a valid photo I.D.
For European visitors, a valid passport and visa is required. Visas can be issued for either 30 days or three months. European visitors requiring a Visa extension should apply in person at the immigration office in Plaza Antigua, Playa del Carmen. Visitors from other countries please contact the nearest Mexican Government Tourist Office for entry requirements. |
Customs Entering Mexico: Visitors are allowed to enter Mexico with the following: Personal belongings (clothes, shoes and toiletries), camera, video camera, VCR, binoculars, portable 12" TV, portable radio, tape recorder, up to 20 cassettes or records and 20 CD's, portable typewriter or one laptop computer, small musical instrument, tent, sleeping bag, 12 rolls of
film or video cassettes, books and magazines, up to 20 packs of cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200 grams of tobacco, three liters of alcohol or wine when older than 18 years old, up to five used toys if passenger is a minor, two tennis racquets, one set of skis, fishing rod, one surf board with or without sail. Gifts or merchandise items are not to exceed US$3000 in total value when arriving by plane or boat and US$50 when entering by land or by plane if the flight originates from a border zone or departs from a border city. |
Clothing - what to wear: The sun is very strong in the summer, we recommend to using light, cotton clothing, hat and sunglasses. If you go into the jungle, wearing long pants, long cotton shirts and socks with your shoes are recommended. If you are coming in the winter bring a couple of pairs of jeans and a few light sweaters as the evenings may get cool. |
